IT built for the way law firms actually work

Privileged communications. Multi-jurisdiction matters. Document management that has to be both searchable and bulletproof. Filing deadlines that don't care about your maintenance windows. We build IT around how law firms actually run — not a generic MSP template with your firm's name swapped in.

What you've probably lived through

The "quick lateral onboarding" that takes three days when the new hire needs to be billable tomorrow. The document management upgrade that nobody warned you would break PDF/A export the week of a filing. The helpdesk ticket where you had to explain why a redaction failure is a same-hour emergency, not a same-day one. The backup system that "covers everything" — until e-discovery needs the version from six months ago and it isn't there.

If any of that sounds familiar, we've worked through it before.

Outcomes, not tools

Backups. Patching. Monitoring. Helpdesk. That’s the 95% every law firm needs, and every managed shop can hit those metrics. The question isn’t whether they can run the checklist. It’s what the checklist is for.

We treat every item the same way: as a means to an outcome, not a deliverable. Anyone can configure backups. We can tell you when yours last restored cleanly, how long it took, and any gaps in between. Anyone can deploy a security patch. We can tell you whether it broke your litigation team’s PDF workflow before a partner finds out from a paralegal.

That focus on the outcome, not the deliverable, is why we outperform the competition on the basics, not just the edge cases. The 5% other shops can’t reach isn’t a separate offering. It’s what becomes possible when the rest of the operation is built around outcomes.

Law firms that care about the last 5% pick Craftwork Group.

Why we're worth ten minutes

The Craftwork Group is a young entity. The people doing the work aren't. Our team brings more than a hundred years of combined IT experience across the operational profiles law firms actually face — document and matter management, multi-office and multi-jurisdiction networks, regulated-data environments, and the vendor ecosystems legal IT lives in.

Twelve years of that experience came from one regional Pacific Northwest law firm — members of our team served as their de facto in-house IT, four of those years working out of office space sublet from their suite, before the firm's partners went separate ways. We've supported firms from solo practitioners to multi-office mid-size practices, with active managed services engagements at three Pacific Northwest law firms today.

Specific work in the legal vertical includes M365 third-party legal hold and legal search configurations, Tabs/PracticeMaster environments, Thomson Reuters and LexisNexis platforms going back to earlier-generation deployments, large-volume data storage and archiving for active discovery practices, and construction defect litigation IT specifically.

We work as a systems integrator, not a reseller. That means we configure tools to fit how your firm operates, not the other way around. And we engage as an extension of your firm's operational fabric: aware of billing cycles, filing deadlines, conflict-check workflows, and the moments where IT silence is more expensive than IT noise.

What we actually do for law firms

// document-management · matter-management · tabs · practicemaster · redaction · e-discovery

Document and matter management

We deploy and configure document/matter management platforms (Tabs/PracticeMaster current, legacy environments still well-supported), and we own the operational details vendor demos skip: cross-firm matter handoffs, redaction discipline, conflict-aware sharing, and version recovery that holds up under e-discovery production. Migration projects from legacy platforms are scoped, executed, and supported by us — not handed off.

// firewall · vpn · sd-wan · failover · xactimate · carrier-integration

Multi-office connectivity and infrastructure

We design, install, and operate the network and firewall infrastructure your firm runs on — managed firewall deployments, multi-office VPN and SD-WAN configurations, and the failover engineering that keeps a circuit outage from stopping billable work. For construction defect practices specifically, we also handle the Xactimate and carrier-integration workflows that connect law firm IT to insurance and restoration ecosystems.

// encryption · access-logging · retention · audit-trails · state-bar · malpractice

Security, audit-readiness, and e-discovery support

We deploy and operate encryption, access logging, retention enforcement, and audit trails sized to survive state bar inquiry, malpractice carrier review, and e-discovery production. Large-volume data storage and archiving for active discovery practices is part of our normal book — we've worked productions involving terabytes of source material across more than one firm.

// lateral-onboarding · ethical-walls · conflict-checks · offboarding · access-control

Onboarding, offboarding, and lateral integration

We build and operate the IT process behind lateral moves: conflict checks completed, ethical walls erected, prior-firm documents quarantined or destroyed, access provisioned to exactly the matters the new attorney should see — at hire speed, not ticket speed. Same discipline for offboarding, where data control is highest-risk: revocation timing, retention obligations, partner-departure scenarios.

What happens if you reach out

No pitch deck. We start with a 30-minute conversation about what's actually breaking, what's about to break, or what you've been tired of explaining to your current IT setup — whether your firm is a two-attorney shop or running three offices. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you. If we are, we'll scope the work concretely before any commitment.
